When someone misses a court date in O'Fallon, the judge issues a bench warrant. There are actually three types of warrants that come out of this court. A bench warrant is for failure to appear after a plea has been entered. An alias warrant is for failure to appear before a plea is entered. A capias pro fine warrant is issued when someone does not pay their fines after the judge has entered a judgment. All three types can lead to arrest and show up in the state system. The court calls them by different names, but the result is the same: law enforcement can pick you up.

Starting in January 2023, the O'Fallon Municipal Court also took over cases from Lake St. Louis and Weldon Spring. Lake St. Louis court can be reached at 636-980-5960 and Weldon Spring court at 636-980-5980.

Clearing O'Fallon Bench Warrants

If you have a bench warrant from the O'Fallon Municipal Court, there are a few ways to deal with it. The court offers installment payment plans that the judge can approve. Court costs and surcharges may be partially or fully waived depending on your situation. Here is what you can do to resolve a bench warrant in O'Fallon:

  • Call the court at 636-240-8766 and ask about your options for the bench warrant
  • Submit an online plea form through the court website
  • Drop a payment in the 24/7 dropbox in the Justice Center lobby (money orders or checks only, include your name and citation number)
  • Hire a lawyer to file a motion to recall the bench warrant
  • Email ofalloncourt@ofallonmo.gov for information about your case

The dropbox in the Justice Center lobby is available around the clock. You can make a payment any time, but the court does not process warrant payments until the next business day. So if you drop a payment on a Friday night, it will not clear until Monday. For bench warrants specifically, paying the fine may not be enough on its own. You might also need a new court date to resolve the underlying case. Call first to make sure you know what the court expects before you make a payment.
